Situated just thirty minutes away from Alba, Italy, where I spent four leisurely months of “study,” is a tiny little Piedmont town called Bra, a ubiquitous stop on nearly every train ride I took.  Bra and the other cities scattered amidst the Langhe Hills were the founding locations of the Slow Foods Movement, a recent reaction against our fast food nations and lack of education concerning food production.  Little did I realize while I was there that the extensive hours spent gorging myself at the dinner table each night was not just a standard of Italian living, but also a result of eating local, fresh, and sustainably.  And the succulent, affordable fruits and veggies at the market every weekend?  Sold to promote the aforementioned qualities.  What I wouldn’t give to again partake in all that decadently delicious food!
